17 years into the new democracy racism and racist attacks are still common. From workers being ill treated by their farm workers, to the murder of Eugene Terrablance, to the Free State University racist pranks ,it seems like alough we may have freedom not all our enjoying it.This is espicially true within the farm areas.Raising questions and debate’s around the issue of if the black majority farm workers are informed about their human rights so as to not be suppressed by their white farm owners with economic powers. We go to Morokweng in the North West and hear tales of farm workers abuse from their former employer.Which begs question if we are celebrating Freedom day next week ,how many of us are truely free in this country?
Johanna Shomolekae is from the village Morokweng in the far west of the North West province, she has been involved in the tragedy were her employers set the big dogs at her. After 27 years working for the farmers, the dogs have left her disabbled and emotionally scarred. We speak to community members in her area to find out more about what happened on the fatefull day and to see how bad the problem of racism still is in the farm areas.
