The Mapungubwe Collection, both on exhibition and in storage for collections. The collection consists of metal objects and fragments from gold, copper and iron, ivory, bone tools, animal bones, trade glass beads, marine and terrestrial shells, organic materials such as fragile fibres, seeds, charred sorghum and millet, clay figurines, a few dinosaurs fossil remains, Chinese celadon fragments, low-fired ceramics and of course thousands upon thousands of potsherds.

The Mapungwe Museum houses the archaeological collection from the two main Iron age sites namely Mapungwe hill and K2.

This unique archaeological museum boasts thousand year old artifacts’, including the famous gold rhinoceros, many other gold ornaments, clay figurines, Chinese celadon and ceramic ware.

The museum aims to safe guard the mapungwe collection for the future generations, allowing people to enjoy visiting and experiencing South Africa’s rich past by viewing some of its most ancient, unique treasurers
